Tippecanoe County Health Department Expands Child Safety with ROTH ID TAGs

ROTH ID TAG is proud to spotlight the Tippecanoe County Health Department for their dedication to proactive child safety. Their leadership shows how community health agencies can play a vital role in protecting children and giving families peace of mind.

The Tippecanoe County Health Department, located in Lafayette, Indiana, has made child safety a priority by introducing ROTH ID TAG™ to families in their community. Over the past year, the department has distributed tags at multiple events and has taken the initiative even further by ensuring first responders are prepared to recognize and use them in emergencies.

The first event was a Community Baby Shower, where the first 100 guests had the opportunity to choose a crib or car seat. Every mom who selected a car seat also received a ROTH ID TAG, totaling about 65 tags distributed. These emergency identification tags, designed to attach to a child’s car seat, give first responders critical information—such as the child’s name, emergency contacts, and medical needs—in the event of a crash or other traumatic incident.

The Health Department continued its efforts at the Tippecanoe County Fair, where they hosted a vendor table for the entire week and handed out an additional 138 tags. Families were excited to receive them, with many parents and grandparents remarking on what a thoughtful and important idea the tags are. Some grandparents even shared that they planned to use the tags on car seats in their own vehicles, adding another layer of protection when transporting grandchildren.

What sets the Tippecanoe County Health Department apart is how they’ve expanded the impact of distribution. Beyond handing out tags to families, they’ve shared them with local law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS so first responders can immediately recognize and utilize them when needed most.

What is the ROTH ID TAG?

The ROTH ID TAG is a Universal Emergency Contact Identification System. A simple yet powerful tool that makes emergency contact information available in seconds when it matters most. Designed to attach to car seats, strollers, walkers, or any personal device, it ensures that emergency responders or good Samaritans can quickly contact a child’s caregiver in case of an accident or emergency.

The ROTH ID TAG was created after tragedy struck our own family.

On December 23, 2022, Julie Roth, beloved wife and mother, was traveling with her two small children when they were caught up in a 47+ vehicle pile-up on the Ohio Turnpike. Julie and Edna Rose, the baby she was carrying, did not survive, but her two other children did.

Injured and afraid, Julie’s two toddlers waited many hours to see a familiar face while emergency responders worked to identify them and contact their father, who was at work. Thankfully, Ayla and Rory Roth are alive and well today. They are the true reason for the ROTH ID TAG creation.
